Lastly, a huge thanks to my lovely wife, Lettizia for all her support and patience. Will a custom in-person dyno tune always produce slightly better numbers than an e-tune?Īlso, I believe tuners make custom auxiliary functions that run via EcuTek on the ECU which are included in their tunes. Duke: To all those involved in the construction of my car as it sits today. IGN Cars: Give us your obligatory shout-outs, everyone always does, rain or shine. Two turbo kits-we're not selling them yet. In the last couple of months we started working with NSX, G35 and 350Z. IGN Cars: Are you strictly Honda-based? Duke: It's not just Honda, it's S2000s. Selling kits, worldwide, UK Australia, Puerto Rico. We started doing more R&D, more and more. Next thing we know a couple of out of states started asking. It's for anyone who wants to save money and it's something that we can build and fab our own. Everyone was getting minimal gains with bolt-ons. IGN Cars: And Spugen, is it a team or a company? Duke: Spugen started out as a joke in '01 when their weren't many tuners. Then I drove one right then and there, after 6,000 rpm I was sold. But I was iffy, but because it looked like a girl car-semi-miata. IGN Cars: Why S2000? Duke: The thing that attracted to me were all the articles. And decided for the same amount o I could get an S2000. I was in the market for an NSX, to buy a used one. better resale value and handles almost like MR car. Above 5,600 rpm it screams like a banshee. IGN Cars: Performance-wise, what do you like about the S2000? Duke: The ass end likes to break loose, but it also likes to straighten itself out. For having such a sweet car, a great up and coming tuning company and much talent, he's a down to earth all-around nice guy. We cornered Duke into a one-on-one interview just to shoot the breeze. We didn't want you to take our word for stuff. Duke admits there's still a lot under construction for the vehicle, but he seems to be happy at this point. It begins with a Vortec Supercharger that breathes extra cold air though a Spugen front mount intercooler and, eventually, expelled through a Spugen single 3-inch exhaust. This red S2, however, does have more than enough juice under the lightweight CF hood to match its beautiful good looks. We are opposed to cars that look good, but don't have the performance to match. And we all know Tim Allen is supposed to be a man. That dealio has Tim Allen written all over it. But it was probably Duke who wanted the Pioneer A/V setup accompanied by a Kick 4-channel amp, a Phoenix Gold EQ/Crossover all complimented by a custom fiberglass enclosure-it just had to be. It must've been Lettizia, his wife, who thought of the custom red and black door panels they look too stylish to be thought up by someone of the male gender many props Mrs. On the inside Duke and his wife sit snuggly with a tight racing harness and some Sparco Speed Seats. The biggie 6-piston Wilwood brakes make the feathery 2,800lb car stop like a fat cop near a discount donut shop. Neuspeed lower springs mated to stock struts keep the contact patch relatively even under adverse conditions. Width on those bad boys is 7-inches and 8-inches in the front and rear, respectively Toyo rubber keeps the Honda sticky when wet(that's my motto and words to live by). 17-inch Volk GT-N wheels are also not of the red persuasion, but look solid with custom black finish. Only the site of black carbon fiber on the bonnet and trunklid separate the sea of red, but it's a nice break and saves some weight in the front and rear. To match the cherry color Duke paid big bucks for one of our favorite kits, a full C-West kit. The 2.0L bullet has been done up in New Formula Red Paint. Since its release the S2000 has received acclaim from automotive press and enthusiasts alike. It's a naturally aspirated, rear-wheel drive roadster that takes everything Honda has learned in F1 and applies it to an ultra high-revving powerplant that makes for one sick-ass canyon carver.
